Obituary of Dalbert Hiram D’Arcy
It is with great sadness that the family of Delbert H. D’Arcy announce his passing which occurred on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, on August 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Hiram and Ethel (Laing) D’Arcy.
A graduate of Saint John High, Delbert began his career with Ford Motor Company in 1950 and retired in May of 1986 as an Atlantic Regional Manager. Family was so important to him and he was so proud of all his children’s accomplishments. Delbert enjoyed spending his summers with family at the cottage on the Belleisle Bay. He was an avid card player, playing cards with family and friends. Both he and Ruth enjoyed many games of cribbage and 45’s at the Lower Norton Hall. Delbert and Ruth spent many winter months in Florida and cherished the time spent there with family.
Delbert is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Norma Ruth D’Arcy (Melvin) of Hampton, NB; children: Judi Lawson of Quispamsis, NB, Cindi Bursey (Tom) of Hampton, NB, Peter D’Arcy (Linda) of Dorval, QC, Justice Steven D’Arcy (Susanna) Halifax, NS and Sandra Jewell (Alex) of Lake Worth, FL; grandchildren: Danny, Jennifer, Amy, Charlotte, Duncan, Polly, Josh, Keegan, Andrew and George; great grandchildren: Eric, Nicholas, Katelyn, Max, Julia and Madelyn; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Delbert was predeceased by brothers: James, Leycester, Gilbert and Glenmore D’Arcy; sisters: Olive Metcalfe, Susan D’Arcy and Jean Wood; and son-in-law George Lawson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB and will be held privately. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Erb’s Cove Baptist Cemetery, Erb’s Cove, NB. Donations in memory of Delbert may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
