It is with great sadness that the family of Cyril Courtney Williams announce his passing on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 91. Our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Cyril was predeceased by his loving wife Olive of 54 years and will be deeply missed by his children; Shirley, James, Rick (Carol), Norma (Arthur), Sue (Greg), Cyril, Lorrie (Gord), Kimberley (John), Cathy (Nicholas) 26 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends. Cyril was born on November 9, 1932, in Stellarton, Nova Scotia and was predeceased by his parents; James & Gladys, siblings; Kathleen, Georgia, Irene, Ruth, Stanley, Frances, Pearl, Robert, Virginia, Eddie, John, Betty, and is survived by his younger sister Phyllis. Cyril was employed as an orderly for many years at Misericordia Health Centre, Sunnybrook Hospital and Concordia Hospital and was well loved by all who worked with him. He was an avid and skilled chess player, fisherman, stamp and coin collector, and a history and geography buff. In his later years he enjoyed playing weekly bingo with his friends at Huronview.
Cyril served for the duration of the Korean War which ended in 1953. During his time overseas he was a Paratrooper and Master Gunner with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Regiment.
Later in his overseas military career, he was promoted to Special Forces. He received several medals and citations for his accomplishments while serving.
Cyril met the love of his life Olive while working as an orderly at the Salvation Army Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He proposed on Valentine’s Day 1966, and they eloped on March 3, 1966.
In 1983 Cyril & Olive relocated to Ontario and raised their family in Toronto and later Clinton.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 26th @ 1:00pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm at Falconer Funeral Home, 153 High St, Clinton, Ontario. The service will be live streamed.
Memorial Donations in Cyril’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Foundation.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Huronview Home for the Aged for the care and compassion provided for their beloved father, over the past 10 years.
In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be there.
