Obituary of Cornelia M. «Corrie» Groenenberg
Of St. Thomas, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, July 15, 2024, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late M. Jacob “Jake” Groenenberg (May 18, 2024). Dearly loved mother of Jean (André), Dorothy (John), Herb (Grace), Alice (Clarence), and the late Ralph (Judy). Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, one sister, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her great grandson, James Carey (2008).
Born in Slochteren, GR, The Netherlands, March 21, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Roelf and Jantje (née Doornbos) Ridder. Corrie came to Dover Centre, ON from The Netherlands in 1953 and to St. Thomas in 1955. She was a member of the Fellowship Church, St. Thomas.
Corrie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She and Jake would take their grandchildren camping, she loved teaching the GEMS girls program at church and over the years Corrie enjoyed knitting mittens, making pj’s, and embroidering graduation pictures for each of her precious grandchildren. She was a great cook and loved to serve others. She and Jake spent many years volunteering for the Mission Thrift Store and doing Disaster Relief work while enjoying their travels.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Fellowship Church, 641 Elm St., St. Thomas. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-10:50 a.m. Pastor Dave Kennedy will be officiating the service. Interment will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park. The service will be livestreamed on the Fellowship Church, St. Thomas YouTube channel. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Community Christian School will be gratefully acknowledged.
