Obituary for
Connie Mattson
On Thursday, March 21, 2024, Connie Mattson of Mayerthorpe, AB, passed away at the age of 67 years. She had spent her final days surrounded by family and friends.
Connie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 42 years, Orlen; children, Lee and Carly (Bryce); treasured grandsons, Gavin, Porter and Emmett; brothers, Erik (Rose) and Peter; sister, Diane (Wendy); as well as her dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Borge and Mette Hansen of Edmonton, AB.
Connie was born in Fredericia, Denmark and immigrated with her family to Edmonton in 1957. She was very proud of her Danish heritage, preserving that legacy through cooking traditional recipes passed down from her mother. Connie’s artistic outlet was creating with her hands. She was a talented hairdresser, loved to sew, knit and needlepoint. Connie’s “House of Hair” was a routine stop for many that offered so much more than just a cut and color; be it a place to laugh, a glass of wine, a shoulder to cry on, or simply an ear to listen. Connie also loved gardening and tending to her flowers. Summers were spent at the family lake lot, enjoying camping and visiting with those she loved most. Travelling was a passion of Connie’s, and we are forever grateful for the trips she was able to enjoy with her sisters, Diane and Wendy. Combing the beaches of Canada’s coastlines in search of sea glass or any other uniquities was where she felt her best.
Children were drawn to Connie. She was kind, gentle and patient with little ones and they immediately loved her. Connie was the Time Out Playgroup instructor for many years and was also an Educational Assistant at Elmer Elson Elementary. She also believed in being involved in her community and was an avid volunteer.
Connie was a devoted and supportive wife to Orlen, an excellent homemaker, and truly loved being a mom. She was always there for Lee and Carly; all of their friends knew and adored her. Her most treasured time however was that of being “Granny” to her three boys. She truly loved them “to the moon and back”.
Many thanks to the staff at the Mayerthorpe Extendicare for the care and compassion shown to Connie and her family.
Honoring Connie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made in her memory to Elmer Elson Elementary School, Box 330, Mayerthorpe, AB, T0E 1N0.
