Connie Elaine Warner (nee Johnston)
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Connie Warner announces her passing on January 23, 2024 after a two year battle with cancer. Born in Scott, Saskatchewan on July 26, 1945 Connie was the fourth of five children.
Connie was able to attend Concordia Lutheran College in Edmonton, Alberta for her high school years. She was a proud alumna and was active with their committees up until a few years ago.
Connie met Jack Warner in Montreal in the summer of 1965. They were married in December of that year and remained so until Jack’s passing in 2015.
Connie was a serial entrepreneur, owning real estate businesses in Fort McMurray (credited as the National Realty World Broker of the Year and Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 1987) and Edmonton. Coming from a small town in Saskatchewan to lead more than one successful company in Alberta was not an easy thing to do, particularly as a woman. The friendships she made along the way enriched her life and those of her family. Never afraid to speak her mind, you always knew where you stood with Connie. In 1990 she went a different route, managing the Career College in Edmonton for three years. She subsequently started her own consulting company in 1994, working in the field of quality assurance; helping 42 companies become registered to the ISO 9000 standard. Over the past twenty years she consulted primarily in the fields of behavior management and leadership development, working extensively with Edmonton Public Schools as well as numerous private businesses and peer groups.
She had a remarkable skill for understanding peoples’ behaviors and motivations and was able to help guide them through a better understanding of themselves and how to positively interact with others. She had a profound impact on many lives and was loved by many.
Connie also was an active Rotarian for several years. Many of her valued lifelong friendships came because of the work she did with Rotary and through her other business relationships.
Connie is survived by her two sons, Graham (Laurie) and Heath (Kim) and her granddaughters Erin, Carleigh and Reeve as well as her sister Marcie (Otto) and numerous other nieces, nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack; her brothers Melvin and Dennis Johnston; foster brother Larry Robinson; and her sister Maxine Lucht.
Our world is a little darker without her energy and light, but knowing that she is in a better place, looking down and asking us to continue being all we can be is her legacy.
We also want to thank the doctors, nurses, healthcare aids and associated staff at Oilfields General Hospital in Diamond Valley, AB for your remarkable support, care and kindness shown towards Connie and her family over the past two months.
A celebration of Connie’s life will be held at a later date with location and time to be determined.
