Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Columbus Benoit on Sunday, July 30, 2023 in his 87th year at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital.
Columbus leaves to mourn: his 6 children: Leonard (Charlene), Cornelius (Alene) Beverley (Frederick), Carolann (Terry), Mable (Earl) and Delia (Dale); his sisters: Anne Marie and Evelyn; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Columbus also leaves to mourn: his partner of 35 years Jeannette Rouzes; and her children: Cornelius (Shirley), Priscillia (Ted), Phyllis (Bob), Matilda (Roland), Eileen (Clem), Ted, Perry (Betty), Harris (Gloria), Myles (Alison), Laurie Anne (Cyril) and Sandy (Bertram) and their families.
Columbus was predeceased by: his parents John and Annie Mary; his wife Jean (nee Rubia); brothers: Terry, Alphonsus, and Alfred; sisters: Lillian, Hilda, and Madonna; and grandchild Alcide.
Columbus was a quiet man who enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He was a very hard worker and eager to jump up and lend a helping hand. He enjoyed a good game of cards and was quick to tell a joke. We will miss the stories he shared of the people and situations he encountered. He leaves a huge gap in our lives, and we will miss him dearly.
A special thank you to his home support workers Tracey Rouzes and Felicia Benoit.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held later in September.
Those we love don’t go away.
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
So loved, so missed.
