HAYES, Colleen Rosemond (née McSheffrey)
Passed away at Riverbend Long Term Care in Cambridge, Ontario, on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Devoted wife of the late William Denis Hayes, and loving mother to Donna (Bradley), Deborah (Richard), David (Belinda), and predeceased by sons Blair (Donna) and James.
Much loved grandmother to Christopher (Lina), Morrigan (Michael), Nicholas (Jessica), Meghan (Jakob), James, and Helen. Beloved GG to Sophia, Madeline, Margot, Marion, and Elise.
Dear sister of Ronald (late Joyce)(Frances), and predeceased by her siblings Phyllis McSheffrey (late Jack Peters), Wilbert and Gerald (Suzanne). Survived by brother-in-law Howard Hayes (Charlotte) and predeceased by sister-in-law Catherine (late Adrian Carroll).
Colleen will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Colleen was born in Venosta, Quebec in 1935 on her parents’ (John and Bernice McSheffrey) farm. She attended school there and then moved to Ottawa to work for the Bank of Canada. Colleen and Bill were married in 1955 in Venosta and moved to Old Chelsea where they started their family. They spent many happy years raising their family first there and then in Riviera, before moving to Montréal in 1974. When Bill died 25 years ago, Colleen moved to Cambridge to be closer to her children where she lived independently for many years a block away from Deborah and her family.
Colleen was a highly involved grandmother and great grandmother and took great delight in their various accomplishments and the antics of her much beloved dog, Casey.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverbend for their care and compassion.
A small family gathering will be held at Lounsbury Funeral Home, Cambridge on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The service will be held at 2:30 p.m. and it will be livestreamed here. An interment and memorial service will be held at a later date at Martindale Cemetery in Low, Quebec.
As expressions of sympathy a donation to any charity of your choice would be appreciated.
