Claude Deschâtelets Obituary
Peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his family at Nipissing Serenity Hospice on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 85 years. Claude was the beloved husband of Marie-Jeanne (née Campeau) Deschâtelets and the loving father to Gilbert Deschâtelets (Christine Brassard), Guy Deschâtelets, and Christine Deschâtelets (Carmelo Castiglione). Claude was the cherished grand-papa to Justin, Pascale, Alexia, Tiana, Patrick, Claire, and Audrey. He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings; Colette Decaen (Mike), Claire Poulin (Richard), Suzette Bidal (late Laurent), Gisèle Deschâtelets (André), Jacques Deschâtelets (Diane), Nicole May (Jim), Michel Deschâtelets (Diane), Richard Deschâtelets (Linda), Marc Deschâtelets and Denis Deschâtelets. He will be remembered by his in-laws Lucille Emery (late Gerard), Jean Campeau (late Ursule), Arthur Campeau (Cécile) and Paul Campeau. Claude is predeceased by parents Rosario and Isabelle (née Malette) Deschâtelets. He was an educator for 35 years where he fulfilled a role as principal for 25 years. He was a gifted and passionate athlete who showed his talents in multiple sports; basketball, lacrosse, broomball and billiards. His love for the French Community was always evident as he was very proud to have been one of the four founding members of “Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs”. He dedicated countless volunteer hours to his students and his community, even years following retirement. The family will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Friday, June 7, 2024, between the hours of 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Église Saint Vincent de Paul on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 12 pm. If desired, donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice and Église St Vincent de Paul would be gratefully acknowledged by Claude’s family.
