Obituary
On Sunday, January 15, 2023, Christopher Charles Simpson, loving son, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully at the age of 56 at North Bay Regional Health Centre
Christopher was the nineth born to his parents Rosemary and Neil Simpson and was raised with his siblings with tender loving care. Affectionally supported by his family his innocent personality brought joy and blessed the lives of everyone in his community.
Chris, a child with Down syndrome, first attended West-Bay-Field School. He then attended the North Bay and District Association for Community Living Work Training Centre for Handicapped Adults, (F. J. Dellandrea Place) where he worked in the kitchen.
Christopher was a happy, sweet, and innocent soul. He loved his family deeply and created a nickname for each sibling. Mom was Mommy and Dad was Cowboy Daddy. He made us laugh every day. Chris would light up a room with his presence and always added flair to family and community gatherings. He enjoyed many activities and especially loved to swim, dance, dress up and sing. He loved parties and knew all our friends by name. Chris was an avid hockey and WWF Wrestling fan. A favourite outing of Chris’ was to Tim Horton’s for a double-double and a chocolate dipped donut.
As a young adult, Chris moved out of the family home into a new home, Cedarview, supported by Community Living North Bay. Here Chris found his independence as an adult and created with dignity his own personal environment to enjoy his friends, family, and activities. He also lived in the Community Living Homes on Birches Road, First Avenue, Lake Heights, Airport Road and most recently McPhail. He received loving and respectful support from the incredible staff members of these warm comfortable homes. Our family are deeply grateful for the compassionate care by the staff at each of his homes. Special thank you to the staff of the Airport and McPhail group homes for their extra support and care for Chris during his transitions over the past few years.
Those who knew Christopher will mourn his passing with an intensely heavy heart. His life touched many and will continue to bring joy and have a lasting effect on his family and community.
Christopher is survived by his siblings, Kathy Guthrie (John), Laurel Chad, Tracy Simpson-Phillips (Greg) David Simpson (Jodi), Thomas Simpson (Sunny), and Michael Simpson (Lee Ann). He is also survived by a large and wonderful extended family: nieces and nephews: Kayla Guthrie, Read Guthrie (Maeve), Bretton Chad, Kara Chad, Neil Phillips, Ashley Simpson, Beau Simpson, Jena Simpson, Josh Simpson (Lauren), Mac Simpson, and Anneka Simpson. Great nieces and nephews: Ella McDonald (Ashley), Bennett McDonald (Ashley), Makai Vaillancourt (Jena), Maylee Vaillancourt (Jena), Isla Cox-Guthrie (Read), and Sawyer Simpson (Josh).
As per Christopher’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will be having a celebration of life at Churchill’s Prime Rib House on Saturday May 13, 2023 between the ours of 2 pm to 4:30 pm. Family and friends look forward to honouring Chris through sharing memories.
