Christena May Church passed away peacefully, at the Bonnechere Manor, early Friday morning May 3, in her 89th year. Loving wife of the late Sheldon Church for 56 years. Devoted and loving friend of Dalton Hein. Dear mother of the late Wade, late Calvin, Evans (Michelle) and Kelly (Jodi) Church. Grandmother of Jordan, Josh, Caitlin (Andrew Korschefsky), Adam and Ben Church. Survived by her brother Reid (Betty) Hamilton. Predeceased by siblings Catherine, Harriet, Edna, Ron, and Grace. Fondly remembered by many friends and relations.
Christena had a strong faith, living her life with intentionality to honour God. She was a person who gave of herself and her time selflessly to care for family, friends and even strangers. She had a strong work ethic, never putting off to tomorrow what she could do today. When she saw a need she met it and when she saw a gap, she filled it, choosing action over words every time. There was always room at her table for one more person. She loved music, hosting music gatherings and attending musical events whenever she could. She was also very involved in the community, volunteering with the United Church, Renfrew County Fiddlers, political parties and other organizations. She will be remembered for her dedication to and love of family, friends and community.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Bonnechere Manor for their genuine care, compassion and support. Christena’s stay at the home was a blessing.
Final arrangements entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew. Visitation for Christena will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 6:30-9:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 12:00-1:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service in the Zohr Family Chapel at 1:00 pm. Burial at North Horton Cemetery. A reception will follow at Stewart Hall, Trinity St. Andrew’s Church, 291 Plaunt St, Renfrew.
