Cheryl Feindel Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Cheryl Edith Pearl Feindel, age 76, of Saint John, NB. Cheryl passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Shannex Nursing home, Saint John, NB.
Cheryl was the devoted daughter of the late Carroll and Verna L (nee Veneau) Feindel of NS. Cheryl was proud to be born in Goose Bay, Labrador when her father was stationed there with the RCAF. Her childhood was vibrant with moves between RCAF stations Goose Bay, Greenwood, Moncton and Downsview. The vibrant life of her parents marked by dinner parties and dancing during that era stayed with her throughout her life and she loved to attend social functions and dances.
Cheryl was a Teacher – Librarian, for many years at Simonds High School in Saint John, NB. A lifelong learner who was very proud to have achieved her Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of British Columbia in 2002.
She lived her values and devoted her life to contributing to the communities in which she lived having founded the Dorchester Co-operative Kindergarten in Dorchester, NB (1975), Village Square Craft Shop (1975), Keillor House Museum Manager (1975-1978) and in later years the Westmorland Historical Society. She was especially proud of her popular historical “Tea Talks” as a fundraiser for the IODE Dorchester Chapter. A long time Volunteer at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Her faith was a big part of her life having been an active member of the Anglican Churches in Saint John and Dorchester, NB and always looked for ways to help those in need.
Cheryl was a creative soul with diverse interests. She loved supporting local art, history and educational programs however and whenever she had time. Often seen passing the time strolling the Waterfront in her loyalist period costumes chatting with tourists off the cruise ships or wandering around uptown looking for sights to see. A friend to those at Prude Inc. and Loyalist House. Cheryl’s favorite past times though were as a miniature artisan and speed reading through countless books.
She was an altruistic woman who devoted her life to family. She was a beloved mother and Nanny, devoted sister and daughter and an adored “Auntie”.
She will be dearly missed by her family: daughter Gillianne (Andreas) Feindel; her two grandchildren of Taunus Area, Germany; brother Wayne Feindel of Dorchester, NB; nieces Kara (Manuel) Becker of Dieppe and Amanda (Mark) Istvanffy of Dorchester; nephew Kirk (Erica) Feindel of Dartmouth, NS; beloved great nieces and nephews; special friends: Glen Stackhouse, Eileen (Art) McQuaide, Janice Richard and her son Alex Richard; as well as countless other friends she made throughout her lifetime.
Cheryl’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and staff at Lily Court in the Shannex Nursing home, for all their loving care and attention during Cheryl’s illness. They will fondly remember chats with her, often starting with “you know I have to tell you”.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, Saint John, NB. A celebration of her life intertwined with traditional funeral service rites will take place at Christ The King (2000 Loch Lomond Road Saint John, NB) at 10:30am on Sunday, October 20, 2024, followed by the usual refreshments. There will also be a memorial service at Trinity Anglican Church in Dorchester on Saturday, November 9, 2024, starting at 11:00am. A Victorian tea reception will directly follow at Trinity Anglican Church Hall. In keeping with Cheryl’s eclectic personality, you are encouraged to be yourself at her services and wear what makes you feel comfortable, be it traditional mourning colours or vibrant colours to send her off in celebration of her time here on earth. Her internment will follow on a later date at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
Those wishing to donate in memory of Cheryl may do so to your charity of choice. She was known to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, children’s charities, soup kitchens and shelters, including animal shelters.
