CROMWELL, Charles Edward “Chuck”
1938 – 2024
It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Charles Edward Cromwell, in his 87th year. Respected father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He valiantly fought battles with prostate and bladder cancer and dementia over the years and died peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Brantford General Hospital with his heartbroken daughters, Wendy-Leigh Pelletier (Ken) and Wanda Vella (Bob) by his side. Welcoming him and his fur-baby Marlee “Baby Chief” (who passed the same day) is his wife and soulmate, Lorrie (2023), as well as his children Marianne (1962) and Darryle (2019). Cherished grandfather to Sara Cromwell (Paul), Steven Vella, Nicholas Pelletier (Amanda), Richard Cromwell (Maria), Corrine Pelletier (Matt), Elyse Passmore (AJ) and Bobby Vella. He loved seeing his great-grandchildren whenever he could: Lexis and Kailey Vella, Hudson Cromwell, Patrick, Jayne and Collin Passmore. He’ll always be special to his younger sister, Jodi Chambers and cousin, Mike Francis (Linda), and forever friend to the very end, Bill Kennedy (Sonja). Brother-in-law to Pauline Radcliffe, Fred Hiller and Eileen Mitchell. Predeceased by his parents, Roy and Marjorie (nee Tebow); siblings: Jack Radcliff, Roy (Betty), Jean Lee (Barney), Irvin, Donna Perry (Eugene) and in-laws: Robert, Mary, Jim, Jack Hiller, Marion Kaye and Richard Chambers.
After a 40-year association with Wm. Neilson Ltd. (Mount Forest, Hamilton, Toronto and Georgetown), Chuck retired to his home-town of Brantford in 1999. With his dementia, he was still in work mode and would often be found getting ready to go load trucks or balance the books. Chuck was Past-President of Neilson 25 Year Club and founding member and Past-President of The Ontario Kart Racing Association. He enjoyed watching football, baseball and golf and was a member of Brantford Northridge Golf Club. Chuck and Lorrie were winter residents of Florida (1991-2019), residing in Floral City and then Tarpon Springs before health issues prevented them from travelling as snowbirds. He was respected by many and proud of his big bushy moustache! Chuck was happiest being surrounded by friends and family (especially the little ones). He is affectionally remembered as a pleasant man of few words and an adorable smile, with a quick, witty sense of humour and a gentleman who would help out anyone in a pinch. Chuck loved having a good time and is probably in heaven dancing and singing to his sweetheart Lorrie, «A White Sportscoat (and A Pink Carnation)». Thank you for blessing us with such wonderful memories! We love you!
A funeral service to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held at England Funeral Home, 294 Main Street South, on Thursday, June 6th at 12 noon, with visitation from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Autism Canada or Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington.
