It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Charlene Guertin (Kissock) while surrounded by loved ones on October 25, 2024 after an 18th month battle with cancer.
Charlene was born in Thompson on November 26, 1979 at the Thompson General Hospital. After grades 1 – 4 at Juniper School, Charlene moved to Rankin Inlet, Nunavut with her parents for grades 5, 6 & 7, then back to Thompson for grades 8 & 9 and then off to Winnipeg where she graduated from Balmoral Hall High School in 1997. While attending the University of Manitoba, and working on her Bachelor of Arts Degree, she worked at McDonalds achieving the position of Assistant Manager. As well, Char started a Mentoring Program at McDonalds where other students could get help with their studies.
She moved back to Thompson in 2006 and worked at the public library before finding her dream job at the Thompson Fire Department as a dispatcher in 2008. During her 16 years at the TFD she loved and cared deeply for her «work family».
In 2009 she met Cort, the love of her life on a blind date at a social and they married in 2016. She found many other loves in her life, reading, movies, travelling, knitting, but most of all, (other than Cort) her «fur babies».
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Cort, step children Taylor (Brandon), Justin (Alyssa), parents Tom and Shirley , Grandmother Mamie, Uncles Charlie (Liz) & Murray, Aunts Donna (Russ), Lorna (Rob), Kirstie (Rick), Debby (Jim), Patty, in-laws Yves and Dorothea, Robert (Helena), Brenda (Mick) and her many cousins , nieces, nephews, friends and her co-workers.
Charlene was predeceased by her grandparents Jim Hendren and Jack & Jean Kissock.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion in Thompson, Manitoba on November 21, 2024 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Please join us in celebrating life and times of Charlene.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Thompson General Hospital and Women’s HSC for all their care and support.
