It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Celeste on September 11, 2024, at Freeport Hospice, at the age of 87 after a short illness. In her final days, she was full of gratitude and love, reflecting the warmth and kindness she shared with everyone around her.
Beloved wife of Paul.
Loving mother of Sam (Jackie), Kendra (Fred), Cheryl, and Denice (Ed). Cherished Grandma, Celeste leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Sarah (Mickel), Bradley (Rachel), Eric (Lyndsey), Dylan (Karina), Justine (Michael), Taylor and Haley. She was an Extra Special Great-Grandma to Hadley, Alice, Josephine, Kallie, Noah, Scotlyn, and Charlie.
Celeste will be missed by her siblings Don (Myrna), Floral (the late Len), Daryl (Gail), and her sister-in-law Louann Miller (the late Don), as well as her many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Teresa Schnurr, as well as her beloved daughter, Denice (1995), her devoted husband, Paul (1995), her cherished son, Sam (2017), and her dear friend, Floyd (2022).
Known for her outstanding culinary skills, Celeste was a wonderful host. Celeste took great pride in her career as an obstetrics nurse, having completed her nursing training at St. Mary’s in Kitchener. In addition to her nursing career, she devoted 20 years to volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society and dedicated many years to supporting Canada Blood Services.
Celeste’s family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home (507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467). The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne’s R.C. Church on September 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Woodland Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Arthritis Society of Canada, Diabetes Canada, or Crohn’s and Colitis Canada would be appreciated by the family. (Cards are available at the funeral home.)
Celeste will forever be remembered for her warmth, culinary talents, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
