Catherine «Rena» Connelly England (nee Larkin)
Sadly, we announce the passing of Catherine Connelly England (Rena), on November 7, 2024.
Born in Dumbarton, Scotland, to parents Mary and William, with her younger brother Billy, they enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in the countryside of Balloch. With dreams of seeing the world, Rena travelled to Canada in her late teens, and settled into the Hamilton area, initially living with uncle and aunt Tom and Myra. Rena then met her future husband and fell in love with Joe England. They were married and had two children, Sharon and Michelle.
Rena was known for her love of travel and would visit Sharon in the far away exotic places she lived. She had a wonderful sense of humour, and was adored for her smile, laughter and sharp wit. She shared many old Scottish Limericks with the family. Rena shared deep friendships with many of her expansive family, the Larkin’s, Ferrie’s and the England’s. Life was spent enjoying time with them. Many of her friendships with neighbours and co-workers were also important to her. She also maintained close relationships with the friends she grew up with in Scotland and made several returns to visit them over the years.
Rena spent much of her retirement years enjoying time with her daughter Michelle and son-in-law Jason. They enjoyed backyard BBQ’s, bocce ball matches, music and fun.
The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Juravinski Hospital and all the medical teams, and to the amazing help and care of home nurses Mariann and Tatiana.
Rena will be dearly missed. May she rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 23rd at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, from 1 p.m. till 4 p.m.
