Catherine Marie Pickard, a retired Bracebridge High School Teacher, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023, at The Pines Long Term Care Home, with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 30, 1929, in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
Cathy dedicated her life to the field of education and touched the hearts and minds of countless students throughout her career.
Cathy was the beloved wife of the late John Pickard. Together, they built a life founded on love, respect, and commitment. Their marriage was one that set an example for others and stood as a testament to their unwavering devotion to each other.
Cathy will be deeply missed by her children: Wendy Mairs (late Dave), Jill Gaston (Glen), and Nancy Pickard (Willie). She was not only a mother but also a guiding light in their lives. Her love and support were immeasurable; she took pride in witnessing their achievements and celebrated their joys as if they were her own.
Her grandchildren: Matthew (Lana), Ryan, Corey (Michelle), Jeffrey, Gary (Shannon), Kristin (Kyle), Shauna (Terry), Erin (Andre) and Tyler (Jenna) brought immense joy into Cathy’s life. She cherished every moment spent with them and embraced their individuality wholeheartedly. Cathy’s love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she was always their biggest fan. She leaves behind beautiful memories that will be forever written in their hearts.
Cathy’s impact extended to her great-grandchildren, whose presence brought her immense joy and happiness. She delighted in their laughter, marveled at their growth, and took delight in watching them develop into the remarkable individuals as they continue to develop into today.
Sadly missed by Sister-in-law, Liz Milne, Niece Cindy Wren-Milne and daughter Lauren.
Cathy and her sister Betty, along with her parents, Mad and Bill Hall built the first cottage on Pine Lake Two in 1940. When Cathy married John they shared a deep love for the outdoors – especially Pine Lake. They built a close community here with the “Pine Lake Family” – Mike and Deb Spence, Mike and Tracy Henry and John and Judy Shaw and their children that called them Granny and Gramps. Their impact as stewards of Pine Lake from all their years on the lake will be greatly missed.
She, along with her husband, John, enjoyed many years of travelling overseas especially in the Algarve, Portugal where they made many lifelong friends.
We would like to thank the amazing staff at The Pines Long Term Care Home. For the past three years the entire staff have gone above and beyond to make Cathy and her family part of their family.
In keeping with Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
In leu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be sent to The Pines Support Committee Fund
