June 14, 2024
Peacefully and surrounded by family, Carol Anne Bellefontaine passed away on Friday June 14, 2024 at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with endocarditis, a result of sepsis. She will be greatly missed.
Carol was predeceased by her partner Dmytro Skalij, her parents Louis and Lucille Bellefontaine (nee Riley), and her brother Jerry. Carol is survived by her siblings Paul, Mari-Lou, Rosalie, Toni and Teresa and her Aunt and God-mother Terry Bellefontaine and Uncle Chuck Riley, as well as numerous cousins (Osbornes and Burkes), nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on the Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel in Toronto – 2357 Bloor Street West on Saturday June 22, 2:30-5 pm. Tributes at 4 pm. Family are invited to arrive at 2:00 pm.
Carol’s life was defined by her strong work ethic and her joie de vivre. She worked hard her whole life and at everything she tackled, recently retiring from the Ministry of Corrections after 37 years of service, which garnered her many valued friendships as well as the recognition of the Ministry as an outstanding employee. She loved her family, and from a young age looked after her younger siblings, and in adulthood was a momma bear proud of the accomplishments of her family. Her intelligent curiosity and creative flair found so many outlets. She grew spectacular flowers that stopped pedestrian traffic in downtown Toronto, heirloom tomatoes that made their way into the hip local restaurant of her dear friend Danny Hassell, and knitted fetching dog sweaters for her furry friends at the Osler Dog Park and Playground. Even in these pastimes her dedication and hard work shone through – she grew and created the best of the best. She was fiercely proud of her Acadian roots, which led her to embrace all things French from cooking fine and rustic French cuisine, to travelling and immersing herself in French language and culture. Above all she showered love on Guy LaFleur, otherwise known as the Mayor of Osler Park, whom she treated like a prince. Carol will be missed by her family, many friends and co-workers. Carol loved flowers – in particular those from her favourite local flower shop Poppies on Queen Street West – however if you are looking for a donation opportunity in lieu of flowers, we can suggest the Toronto Wildlife Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
