In Loving Memory of Carol (Varney) Rattray
Carol Rattray, age 67, a cherished resident of Woodstock NB, passed away on December 8th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 6, 1956, in Woodstock NB, to her parents Herman Varney (Father) and Jean (Mother). Carol’s life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and devotion to her family.
Carol is survived by her three sons: Chris Lyons (Kate), Derrick Lyons (Emily), and Billy Rae Rattray (Rebecca), and one daughter Cassandra Rattray (Cordell). Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her six grandchildren: Ashton, Connor, Brody, Molly, Scarlett, and Aurora. Carol’s love and wisdom will continue to guide and inspire them in the years to come.
In addition to her immediate family, Carol is remembered by her brother, Brian Varney.
Carol was predeceased by her sister, Nancy, and her parents, Herman and Jean. In their memory, she joins them in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Growing up in Canterbury, Carol graduated with her GED from Canterbury High School, later she finished her Hairdressing licensing requirements from the Cosmetology Association of NB at Woodstock College, a testament to her determination and commitment to education.
Carol was a dedicated provider for her children, navigating a diverse array of occupations throughout her life to ensure their well-being. From the cherished role of a homemaker to laboring as a tree planter, hairstylist, and various positions in the hospitality industry, she approached each endeavor with a tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment.
Her diverse interests and hobbies over the years showcased a zest for life that was truly inspiring. An avid lover of the outdoors, Carol found solace in activities such as snowshoeing, fishing, and sledding. Her passion for family extended to attending every sports game played by her children and grandchildren, a commitment that spoke volumes about her devotion and love.
Carol’s love for entertainment included a fondness for shows such as Survivor, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud. However, her true dedication was reserved for sports, never missing a single game. A socialite at heart, she enjoyed spending time with friends playing bingo, a tradition that continued during her years at the Carleton Manor.
Carol approached life with a lightness that lifted the spirits of those around her, and her presence brightened even the darkest days. Her ability to find joy in the simplest of moments was a source of inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to share in her company. Carol’s infectious laughter and penchant for telling jokes – some unfit for the chapel, were a testament to her vivacious personality.
Carol, well-known for her talent in the kitchen, created many cherished memories with her children through her love of cooking and baking. Her good-natured and joking personality, capable of turning faces red with laughter, was complemented by her constant companion—a can of Coca-Cola.
In the face of numerous challenges, Carol demonstrated an unyielding spirit marked by positivity and empathy. Her strength served as an inspiration to all who knew her, overcoming obstacles with grace and resilience until the very end.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec 14, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm at Scott Funeral Home, Woodstock, NB
A Celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Thursday, Dec 14, 2023. at 2 pm. Rev, Greg Williams will be officiating.
Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her memory and sharing stories of the remarkable woman she was.
May Carol Rattray rest in peace, surrounded by the love that she so generously gave during her time on this earth. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the lives she touched.
Interment will be in the Canterbury Cemetery at a later date.
Donations can be made to the MS Society of Canada and the Carleton Manor in her honor if any so wishes.
