OBITUARY
Carmela Macina, 81, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter by her side in the early morning of October 19th, 2024 at Margaret Bahen Hospice, in Newmarket, Ontario. She was born in Monteleone di Puglia, on August 4th, 1943, to parents Ida Di Benedetto (Tamburro) and Luigi Di Benedetto. She traveled to Canada in 1958, landing in Halifax alongside her loving mother, sisters Raffaella Nastasi (Carmine) & Mary Di Liso (Frank). Once Carmela’s family settled in Toronto, she was educated by a private teacher for a few years before she entered the workforce at the age of 15. She met her beloved husband Guy Macina in 1961, married in 1963, and shared 61 devoted years. In 1964, they welcomed a son, Domenic Macina (Sabine), and grandchildren Nicholas & Courtney (Brendan). In 1969, they embraced a daughter, Anna Macina
(Stuart Cox), followed by grandchildren, Siena & Marcus, and step-grandchildren Rachel & Matthew. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, including her many dear nieces and nephews. For several years, she worked successfully as a sales consultant in women’s fashion retail, but her top priority was always raising and nurturing her family.
Despite her health struggles, Carmela went above and beyond for her loved ones; generously attending and recognizing special occasions, cheering loudly at sporting events, and consoling them in times of trouble. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was especially known for her famous lasagna, crostoli, and cream puffs. She also loved sewing, arts and crafts, and home decor; turning her passion and artistry into a small business (Creations to Remember), designing and building nativity scenes, churches, angels, tree ornaments, and other Christmas decor. Carmela loved to garden and admired her flowers and vegetables. She lit up any room she entered – lovingly known for her sense of style, infectious laugh, spunky dance moves, radiant personality, and striking beauty. Her faith in the Catholic religion was impeccable. She prayed for her
loved ones every day, attended church every Sunday, and found peace with God. Join us as we remember Carmela, the life she lived, and the beautiful memories we shared with her. Family and friends will be received at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home (211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, Ontario) on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Holy Cross Chapel of St. Joseph (211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, Ontario). A private interment (by invitation only) will take place following the funeral service. Donations may be made in Carmela’s memory to Margaret Bahen Hospice and the Canadian Cancer Society.

God bless the soul of my dear cousin Carmela. May she rest in peace. Our condolences to Guy, Anna, Domenic and all family and friends. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Full of life. We shared the same birthday (Aug 4).
I have many fond memories of Guy & Carmela’s visits to the New York many years ago. Also the trips my mom & dad would take us to visit our family in Canada.
There are some photographs of Carmela & Guy on my website.

Again, our deepest condolences. We are saddened by Carmela’s passing.
May God bless & comfort everyone
