Captain Rodger Keller Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Father, Rodger on Monday February 26 at the Milton District Hospital in his 97th year.
Rodger is predeceased by his wife Verla Keller (2020) of 76 years and his two daughters, Linda Keller (1949) and Pamela (Dennis) Wellman (2015). Also predeceased by his brother Lorne (late sister-in-law Lil), sister Mary Zeller (late brother-in-law Ron), sister-in-law Donna Witmer (late brother-in-law Darcy), sister-in-law Karen Miskie ( late brother- in-law Larry).
He is survived by nine children, Ronald (Ruby), Susan, Sandy, Judith(Doug), Carol (Nick), Larry (Lynn), Robert (Joan), Mary (Mike), and David (Eonsook) as well as his son-in-law Dennis Wellman, brother-in-law Doug (Muriel) Armitage, and sister-in-law Rhea Steffler( late brother-in-law Dennis)
His spirit will also live on through his 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Dad proudly told everyone he met that he had 11 kids.
Rodger’s career started in 1956 as a volunteer for the Toronto Township Fire Department and was the 12th Firefighter to be hired by what is now known as the Mississauga Fire and Emergencies Services. His badge number was #12. Over the years he eventually worked his way up to the prestigious position of Captain.
He retired as Captain in 1987 with 31 years of dedicated service. He was recently honoured by the Mississauga Fire and Emergencies Services as their oldest retired firefighter.
In his retirement he continued his passion for carpentry carrying out renovations for many family and friends. Rodger was a devout Christian, taking several mission trips to Nicaragua and Belize building schools, churches and playgrounds always giving back to those in need.
Cooking was also his passion. When he wasn’t working as a firefighter, carpenter or at church, you could always find him cooking up a storm for family holiday’s or dinners at the chapel.
Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will occur at a later date.
