Cabral, Leonel José Carreiro ‘Leo’
Leo passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Meaford Hospital on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the age of 77.
Born in Portugal on October 18, 1946, Leo was a son of the late José Carreiro Cabral and Rosa Pacheco (nee Redondo) Cabral.
He will be missed dearly by his daughters, Marcy Sawyer (Dakota) and Sandra Cabral, who are grieving the very recent loss of their mother, Joan Cabral, who passed away on December 22, 2023.
Leo was predeceased by his significant other and special friend, Veronika Rieger, in 2019, and will be remembered fondly by Veronika’s children, Kathy Fulford, and Frank Rieger.
Leo was the proud grandpa of Jessie Cabral, Josie Cabral, Lucas Dalla Betta, Elisabeth Sawyer, Jacob Fulford, Emily Fulford, and great grandpa of Wesley Treble and Rosa Dalla Betta (who is on the way soon).
He was the wonderful Godfather of Rosa Medeiros (José Luis), Viriato Lima and Filomena Resendes Lopes (Luis).
Leo was the much-loved brother of Manuel Redondo (Iria), Maria Resendes, and Alda Lima. He will be remembered fondly by his nieces, nephews and their families.
Leo was an extremely hard worker and took great pride in his work. He always did his very best at everything. Leo was known far and wide for his butchering, and many looked forward to his pig roasts. He loved to feed his family and friends; it was his special way of caring for others. Leo enjoyed gardening, farming, playing games like euchre and dominos, and catching up with friends at Tim Hortons.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11 o’clock with visiting the hour prior to service. Committal and interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
