Obituary
TOWNSEND, Burnley Melvin – formerly of West Head, Lockeport, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 10th, 2024, at Roseway Manor, Shelburne, N.S. He was a son born to the late Darius Milford Townsend and the late Caroline (Stuart) Townsend of West Head, Nova Scotia.
Burnley worked at many jobs during his life, but most people know and remember him from his love of sports. He worked at the Shelburne Arena and had a passion of umpiring baseball and softball. He was a hockey goaltender for many years on numerous organized teams, having started playing ground hockey in net with his siblings and all the other West Head kids from an early age.
Everyone was welcome to Burnley’s house through the years. It was a sad day if you didn’t get a laugh from his dry wit, which he shared with all he met.
He is survived by his brother, Milford (Linda), Sandy Point, sister-in-law, Rose McGee, Lockeport, nephew (raised as a brother) Tim, Spectacle Lakes, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers; Victor, Neville, Lonnie, Charlie (in infancy), sister Brenda and nephew Peter.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. A private service will take place at a later date with scattering of ashes at his old homestead location in West Head where he spent almost all his life and never wanted to leave.
The family would like to give special thanks to Roseway Manor Staff. Burnley always said he was going to escape, but they made his life healthy and happy. Donations may be made in his name to Roseway Manor. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilsons.net
