Sister Anita Buckley (Sister Mary Francis), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON, died at Shalom Residence in Pembroke on September 30, 2023 at the age of 101 years and in the 74th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, including Sister Mary Buckley, gsic, many other devoted nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Predeceased by parents, Francis and Bridget Ann (Netterville), sisters Mary Claire gsic (Monica), Claire Murray, Ursula Barrett, and her brothers Rev. Father Gerald Buckley, Jack and Tom. Sister Mary Francis was born on August 27th, 1922 in Maynooth. Following her nursing graduation, she entered the Community on September 15th, 1949. As a health care professional, she served in hospitals in Pembroke, Sault Ste. Marie and Esterhazy and Lestock, SK, many of those years as hospital administrator. Other assignments included Coordinator of Health Care for the Grey Sisters, as well as service on the General Council of the Grey Sisters’ Community, Coordinator of the Support Group for the Separated and Divorced, and volunteer ministry at Shalom Residence. Always interested in her staff and the patients in her care, Sister Mary Francis was a friendly face to many and a strong health care leader in her time.
Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Pembroke on Tuesday, October 3rd at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery.
