Obituary of Bryan Herbert Bowman
Bryan Herbert Bowman
1948 – 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of Bryan Bowman announce his passing at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener on Monday, January 29, 2024 at the age of 75.
Cherished and loving husband of Jan for 53 years. Dear father of Jeff (Cheryl) and Phil (Allison). Grandfather of Madison, Olivia (Luke), Flynn and Hannah Bowman. He loved his grandchildren and played whatever was of interest to them, whether it was building with Lego, playing with dolls, roller blading, tobogganing, swimming, teaching bike riding, fishing, boating, camping, reading, stories, colouring, playing games, or snuggling together, he was all in!
Survived by his sister Karen (Henry) Janzen. Predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Viola Bowman.
Lovingly remembered by Jan’s siblings, Edith (Murray) Shantz, Dorothy (Larry) Peterson, Ruth (John) Deyarmond and many nieces and nephews. Bryan married into a family that appreciated him and he was welcomed as a “brother” into the Sam & Verda Weber clan. Blessings come in many ways and this relationship and acceptance was very special to him.
After graduating from Grade 13, Bryan volunteered with MCC and worked at the Oshawa Men’s Hostel for one year. It was here that he learned he had special gifts in caring for those who needed a “helping hand up”. His career began with the City of Kitchener in the Welfare Office, and then when Regional Government came into being in 1973, he was promoted to Supervisor of Field Services. When he retired in 2000, he had a total of 31 years and many good memories with fellow staff. Bryan worked part-time to keep himself occupied at Barg Automotive, Rosendale Farms, Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, and most recently, MKW Commercial Vehicle Outfitters. He loved people, good conversation, and meeting friends for shared sports activities. That usually meant a quick stop for a coffee and doughnut somewhere in the day.
Of great importance to Bryan, was his church involvement as Youth Sponsor, Sunday School teacher, Elder, singing in groups or quartets, and serving on various committees. He joined the Schneider Male Chorus (a 28 yr. member) and enjoyed singing and performing with that talented group. Music was an important part of his whole life.
Together with passenger Jan, they headed out on many motorcycle trips, the longest one 6 weeks. Bryan learned very quickly that heading south (Florida, New Orleans, Kansas area) was extremely hot riding. Much more enjoyable weather in heading to the East Coast with friends Murray and Carol, or to Thunder Bay to see Jan’s sister Dorothy and her husband, Larry and their family. Bryan loved riding the Goldwing, whether on short outings for “pie” or touring Waterloo County back roads. It was relaxing and “head-clearing” freedom!
Friends are invited to share their memories of Bryan with his family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The memorial service to celebrate Bryan’s life and faith will be held at Breslau Mennonite Church, 226 Woolwich St. S., Breslau on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Eleanor Epp-Stobbe officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.
Condolences for the family and memorial donations to MCC, House of Friendship and the Canadian Cancer Society can be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com .
