Bruce passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener. Bruce was born 74 years ago in Stratford, Ontario, and was a resident of the New Hamburg community.
Beloved and cherished husband of Laurene (Leis) Wilhelm, whom he has devoted 55 years of marriage with. Loving father of Paula (Brian) and Fawn (Barry). Proud grandfather of Nicole (Mike), Jacob, Sarah (Simon), Kurtis (Ally), and dear great-grand daughter Aurora, step grandfather of Keith, Ashley (Paul), Brandon, Taylor (Dakota) and grandfather of Branden. Bruce will be missed by his sister Carol (Ron Horst), and sister-in-law Helen (Howard Kropf), as well as by his many nieces and nephews.
Bruce is predeceased by his father and mother Abram and Beatrice (Wilton) Wilhelm, father-in-law and mother-in-law Clayton and Magdelena Leis, brother Glenn Wilhelm, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Eddie Leis (Lydiann), Marjorie Bowles (Doug), and Albert Leis (Sandra).
Bruce was an employee for many years with Riverside Brass and Alloy Castings, both located in New Hamburg, and was noted as a hard working man. He was a devoted member of the New Apostolic Church in New Hamburg and was a long time member of the Church Choir. Bruce had a passion for the outdoors, he loved nature, being on the water, fishing, travelling to Parry Sound and even further North. Bruce devoted much of his time spent with his dear wife who was his constant companion, they loved to travel to various places together. Bruce showed his love for his community and for all others with his active life volunteering to the Working Centre and CMHC. He enjoyed a competitive billiards game, horseshoes in the back yard, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs, and enjoyed a good meal and of course you could not forget to include something sweet for Bruce to indulge in. Bruce’s love for games will be remembered by all, but especially Laurene who enjoyed a game of Dominos just an hour before his passing. Bruce loved all animals and the various family pets held a special place in his heart. Above all his admirations in life, Bruce showed much love, care and compassion to his family, and had the most generous heart. Bruce will be surely be missed by his family on Friday’s as they awaited his every Friday messaging, wishing them well for the upcoming week and making sure they knew just how much they were loved.
Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 4 – 6 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the New Apostolic Church, New Hamburg. Fellowship and refreshments are to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region and can be done through the funeral home.
Bruce’s family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Paramedics and staff at St. Mary’s General Hospital.
