Julian, R. Bruce (December 21, 1942 – March 8, 2024)
It is with heavy hearts that we the family of R. “Bruce” Julian wish to announce his peaceful passing, on March 8th, 2024, after a brief illness, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, at the age of 81. Bruce was born in Scotland, to James and Kathleen (Suffling) Julian. Bruce was a resident of Straffordville and formerly of Carleton Place, Ontario. Over his working years, Bruce was employed as a technical writer with DRS and Spar Aerospace (best known for the creation of the Canadarm). Bruce was a member of St. James Anglican Church. He retired in 2009 and relocated from Carleton Place to Straffordville, with his much-loved wife Karen (Cantin) Julian. Bruce is lovingly remembered by his son Jim Julian, of Straffordville, his grandson Jacob, of Caledonia, and by his siblings Terry (Evelyn) Julian, of St. Thomas; Colin (Wendy) Julian, of Calgary, Alberta; Jill (Ed Prior), of Victoria, B.C.; Norma (Tom Sperl), of Fountain Valley, California. Also survived by his in-laws Pierre (Susan) Cantin, of Kanata; Anne Cantin, of Alberta; Julia (Richard Laviolette), of Perth, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In keeping with Bruce’s expressed wishes, a traditional funeral service will be held on Monday, March 11th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, under the care of the Venerable Osita Oluigbo, of St. John’s Anglican Church. For those unable to attend the funeral service, a livestream will be offered.

Public visitation will be held on Monday, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. A private graveside service and interment will be held in St. James Cemetery, Carleton Place, Ontario, under the care of Barker Funeral Home at a later date. Everyone who knew Bruce is invited to share favourite memories, upload photos, or in lieu of flowers, contribute memorial donations to the “Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario” via Bruce’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J.
