Bruce David Evans passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 7, 2023, in the Alzheimer unit of the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Center.
Bruce was a lovable and complicated individual. Always attentive to his appearance, he could be winsome, engaging, and funny with the same intensity that he could be emotional, excitable, and irritable – sometimes all in the same evening!
Bruce was born August 4,1943 in Campbellton, Newfoundland to Samuel John and Marjorie Alice Evans. He is survived by his sister Maxine Budgell, brother Morgan Evans (Ada), and brother Don Evans (Betty). Bruce was predeceased by his parents and brother Gerald.
Bruce’s career began with CBC Toronto in 1961 where he worked his way up from the mailroom to become a music producer. After transferring to CBC Calgary in the early 1970s, Bruce was music producer, again, there until 1986 when he moved to Edmonton. For the next eight years Bruce traveled the province interviewing well-known Albertans for Access Network programming. During that time, he met and partnered with Jim Jabs. Together they formed Mini Renovations Ltd. and worked together until retirement in 2010.
A highlight of Bruce’s life was to be finally married, and especially to his partner, Jim. Their wedding took place in 2008, theirs was among the first legally recognized gay marriages in Alberta. And what a celebration it was!
Bruce and Jim traveled, gardened, socialized, and enjoyed music of all kinds for over 30 years. Having a wide circle of friends, Bruce will be remembered by many.
The care provided to Bruce at the Good Samaritan Zetter Care Center was exemplary and his family are extremely appreciative that this was his final home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for patient care directly to the Gerald Zetter Centre 9649 71 Ave. Edmonton, AB T6E5J2.
A celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held Friday May 5 at 7:00 PM at the Rio Terrace Community Moravian Church 15108 – 76 Ave. Photos, memories, and condolences may be shared through www.parkplacefuneral.ca.
