Bruce Charles Parkin
1949-2024
It is with profound
sadness that the Parkin family announces the passing of Bruce Charles
Parkin, of Lakeville (formerly Chateauguay, QC), on Wednesday, May 22,
2024, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He was 75. Born May
5, 1949, in Montreal, QC, to the late Alan «Bill»
and Alexanderina «Alexa» Parkin.
Bruce began his career
working as an industrial mechanic in Montreal. He then moved to the
Annapolis Valley (Welsford) in 1984 where he began working for David
Brown United. In February 1990, Bruce began his 30 year career with
Michelin North America (Waterville) working in the Preventive
Maintenance shop until retirement in April 2020.
Bruce loved his family
very much. Throughout the years he could be found tending his garden
and many cactus plants, working on a collection of Volvo’s, which
rarely left the yard except by a tow to the scrapyard. He was a true
culinary wiz in the kitchen. When friends and family came over for
dinner the same question would be asked, «who’s cooking
dinner?» All were relieved to find it was Bruce at the helm. He
loved to putter at projects around the house but rarely found himself
completing them. He would say I’ll get back to that. I’m going to
start on… and he was off crafting something else. He loved the
Montreal Canadiens hockey club. We watched many a game together
sporting our Montreal Canadiens hockey jerseys sharing a
beverage…Moosehead Beer for Bruce all the way!
Bruce will be deeply
missed by his wife of 38 plus years, Lorna Parkin (Maybury); son, Ryan
(Maggie) Parkin (grandson, Seamus Parkin), Rusagonis, NB; son, Darren
Parkin (Brittany Davidson) (grandson, Jack Dempsey, granddaughter,
Eowyn Parkin), Centreville, NS; daughter, Maddison Parkin, Mahone Bay,
NS; survived by his sister, Christine Parkin (Donald Dewar)
Chateauguay, QC; brother-in-law, Bruce (Cheryl) Maybury, Burlington,
ON; sister-in-law, Beverly Maybury, Georgetown, ON; also survived by
several cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as
well as many dear family friends.
Besides his parents,
Bruce was predeceased by a brother, Alan, in infancy; mother-in-law,
Margaret Maybury; father-in-law, Roderick Maybury; and brother-in-law,
Stuart Maybury.
Myself and our family
would like to thank the staff of Medical B at Valley Regional
Hospital. I have no words to describe how truly thankful and grateful
I am. Too many to name but you know who you are. Thank you, Dr. James
Ozon, Dr. Mike Mulherin and Dr. Mike Keough for your compassionate
care, guidance and support through this difficult journey. God bless
you all! Love, Lorna
As per Bruce’s wishes
there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken
place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations
in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation,
Alzheimer/Dementia Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation or any
charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
