Bridget Walsh
July 25, 1943 – September 28, 2023
July 25, 1943 – September 28, 2023
Surrounded by the love of her family, Bridget passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Thursday September 28th, 2023 at age of 80.
Bridget was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Jerome (February 2021); her parents Piece and Johanna Philpott; sister Helene and her husband Frank; brothers Leo and Dominic.
Bridget is survived by her loving daughters Leona (Paul Cook) and Marlene (Daryl Hahn) and her precious granddaughters Madison, Meghan and Emily as well as her brothers Jim, Bill (Kathleen), Piece and sisters-in-law Judy and Jean. Bridget was a proud aunt of many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Bridget grew up in Plate Cove East, Bonavista Bay NL. As a young lady she worked in housekeeping unit at the Gander Hospital. She married the love of her life Jerome in 1963 and they moved to Kitchener, Ontario where they raised their family.
Bridget’s pride and joy was her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of the strong independent girls she raised. The family she created with Jerome was her proudest accomplishment. She was the best grandmother “Nanny” to the girls whom she adored. She spent as much time as she could with them. No ask was too big as she was always willing to lend a hand.
Bridget was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Anyone who walked through her door was met with open arms and most likely a tasty treat. She was a very caring person and demonstrated her generosity to everyone. She like to cook and bake. She enjoyed time in her kitchen which was filled with wonderful aromas of homemade bread, pies and other tasty treats. She and Jerome gardened and spent many hours in the garden. She enjoyed the fruits of her labour and we all enjoyed her canned beets, pickles, salsa, jams etc.
Bridget was a selfless individual who always put her family first! Many a Friday or Saturday evening she would chauffer the girls and their friends around (including picking them up) at any hour of the day. She wanted all the kids to be safe – she was that mom! The stories we could tell.
She loved shopping, playing cards and was always up for a visit and a chat.
As time moved along Bridget wanted to spend less time in Ontario and more time in her beloved Newfoundland.
Even with her health struggles she wanted to be where she and Jerome had planned to be – Plate Cove.
Bridget spent the last 10 months at Pleasantview Towers LTC residence in St. John’s. Thank you to the staff who demonstrated care and support to mom during this time.
Special thanks to Tina who made time each week to host a video chat with mom and for engaging mom to participate in the daily activities.
Thank you to the Emergency Room staff at Health Sciences who cared for mom before she passed – your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.
A celebration of her life will be planned for the Summer 2024 in Plate Cove.
Cremation has taken place.
Visit www.vardysfuneralhome.com to leave condolences for the family. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or St. Patrick’s RC Church would be appreciated by the family.
Consider a random act of kindness or tell your loved ones how much they mean to you as this would be a lovely tribute to a wonderful lady who cared deeply for her family.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
