Obituary of Brian Balzer
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brian Whitfield Balzer announce his passing at the Sus Health Centre on December 11, 2024 at the age of 77.
He was born in Petitcodiac, NB on January 15, 1947; he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Bishop) Balzer.
Brian had an analytical mind, hardworking, dedicated and straight forward. There was no time to be idle or for frivolous small talk, when there was work to be done. He had a busy working career with the Bank of Nova Scotia working at various branches in New Brunswick and as an accountant for a few companies including PotashCorp. His brain was always moving; he always kept a pen and paper in his pocket so he would be able to keep notes and always had a goal for the day.
A mind for numbers, but his passion was for farming and gardening. It was when his hands were in the dirt that he was the happiest. Long sleeve shirts no matter the temperature outside, Brian tended and cared for their 15 acres of strawberries and raspberries with precision. A jack of all trades, he was a man who could fix anything.
He never missed the opportunity to be sharply dressed in a suit and tie for church on Sunday. He held membership on several boards and was a deacon with the United Baptist Church as well as the treasurer for Camp Tulakadik.
He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara (Stever) Balzer of Smiths Creek; their sons: Chris Balzer and his wife Monique of Moncton and Ryan Balzer of Smiths Creek; his brother: Dwight Balzer and his wife Nicole of Moncton; his sister, Shelley Joseph and her husband Mark of Toronto; his grandchildren: Kyle, Cole, Christopher and Nic; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, (506-433-1176). A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 1:00pm.
