Passed away peacefully on January 29th, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, at the age of 88.
Brian was born on the Wirral, just outside Liverpool, on December 19th, 1935. He grew up in New Ferry and attended Birkenhead School until the age of 18. In 1954, he set sail for Canada, with his two lifelong friends, John and Keith, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey that touched the hearts of many.
A true sports enthusiast, Brian’s legacy was written on the rugby fields where he began playing for the Toronto Nomads in 1956. This marked the start of a 27-year career, during which he proudly represented Ontario on numerous occasions and Canada in 1962. His outstanding contributions earned him a well-deserved place in the Rugby Ontario Hall of Fame in 1999, as part of the inaugural class. Beyond rugby, his love of sport included golf and soccer, supporting his beloved Liverpool FC.
Brian’s zest for life extended to the arts, where he found joy in acting and singing. His sweet tooth led him to a lifelong love affair with desserts, but nothing compared to his affection for his family. Through the challenges of Alzheimer’s in his later years, Brian found unwavering care and support from his family, but mostly from his devoted wife, Carol, whom he cherished above all.
Brian was a caring husband to Carol. Cherished son of the late Norman and Tess Williams. Proud father to Jonathan and his partner, Nicole, and Greg and his wife Amy. Devoted Grandad to Jake, Will, Owen, Parker, Rhys and Sophie. Loving brother to Cherrill. Brian is predeceased by his brother, Les. He will be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gratitude fills our hearts as we thank everyone for their overwhelming love and support in recent months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, a fitting tribute to a life well-lived, a legacy of love and passion that will continue to inspire us all.
