It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Brian Fraser on June 30, 2024, at the age of 79 at the Riverview Health Center, with his family by his side
Brian will be deeply missed by his loving wife Audrey of 48 years, their children Mark (Vicky) and Kristen (Marc), grandchildren Bodhi, Cayson, Weston and soon to be here, Baby Fraser. Brian was predeceased by his parents James and Catherine, sister Gail, brother-in-law Joe, in-laws John & Rose, sister-in-law Adele and brother-in-law Lyle. He will be fondly remembered by his siblings Janet and Wayne, sisters-in-law Lorraine and Lois (Ray) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Brian was a dedicated Knights of Columbus with the Windsor Park Council. He loved what they stood for, the community work and the lifelong friendships he made. He served as the Grand Knight, Past Grand Knight and Treasurer. Brian chaired and organized the ICCD and Grey Cup Tickets and enjoyed sitting with his brother Knights (and sometimes in very cold conditions) selling the tickets. He also enjoyed volunteering at the school basketball free throws, the barbeques and any event that the Knights hosted.
When Brian wasn’t volunteering, he and his Knights buddies could be found on the golf course or at McDonalds having coffee.
Brian’s absolute favorite pass time was spending weekends at his daughter and son in law’s cottage. Brian could never sit still there and always had to have some sort of project on the go. When he wasn’t working there, he was corralled by his grandsons to go for a walk or play. At the end of the day, he always enjoyed sitting in the gazebo and sharing a Rusty Nail with company.
As Brian’s IPF progressed and his activities became limited, his biggest past time turned to watching sports and CNN. Mark & Marc could always count on the dad/father-in-law to update them on the latest trades, nice goals in the game, or whatever was happening in the world of CNN News.
When Brian could no longer go out for coffee, his coffee dates with his buddies moved to the house and always brought a smile to his face, no matter how he was feeling that day. He would always say “yes” to coffee, a muffin and a visit. It brought so much Joy to his day.
Thank you to Father Robbie McDougall for your prayers, support, friendship and ministering to Brian and our family during this incredibly difficult journey and being with us at the Riverview Health Center on that Sunday morning.
A special thank you to Dr. Homik and Debbie, for the excellent care and compassion, and the Home Palliative Care team. Thank you to the IPF Support Group and to IPF Caregivers Group. Your heartfelt support and friendship, especially during this past month, was deeply appreciated.
Brian will be missed by many.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of his Life is pending at St. Bernadette Parish.
“Thanks for the years you gave us,
For the good times that we shared.
We thank God that when you left us,
You knew how much we cared.
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be,
So, He put His arms around you and said,
“Come, Rest with Me”
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Brian Fraser, can be made to The Manitoba Lung Association, designated to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Group.
