Brian Allan Terris
1945-2024
Brian Allan Terris,79, of Hillsborough went to be with his
Lord and Saviour on September 25th, 2024. He passed away unexpectedly
at the Moncton Hospital with his family by his
side. Brian was born at home, the last of five children in
Surrey, Albert County on July 11th , 1945. He was the son of the late
Levant and Ruby (Steeves) Terris.
He worked as a machinist at CN until
his retirement. Brian was a Christian man who was a very active member
of the Surrey Valley Baptist Church. As a youngster growing up in
Surrey, he loved hanging out on local farms helping with the
livestock, haying and being around old tractors. He sang in the school
and youth choirs. As a young man he was a Brigade leader in the church
Stockade program for many years. He also served on the board of
trustees and was a Deacon at the church. He was a church choir member
and sang tenor in male quartets for many years. In 1971 he married
Hollie (nee Steeves) of Lower Coverdale. They were married for nearly
thirty years and together they raised three beautiful daughters who he
loved dearly. Brian was a wonderful father, rarely raising
his voice and modeling how one should live by his actions with others.
Brian and Hollie had a wonderful relationship and showed the girls
what family should be. Unfortunately, Hollie passed at a young age and
Brian was lost. He kept busy being active in the Bicentennial
Skating club and Harbour Station skating club in Saint John, sometimes
skating three or four nights a week. Many envied his ability to be so
agile on his feet as he glided around the ice to music. He enjoyed
tinkering in his garage and had a love of antique cars, especially old
Fords. He also enjoyed fly fishing, and many times could be found
fishing at West River or Crooked Creek and even enjoyed getting his
salmon license to fish the beautiful Miramichi River. He enjoyed
family gatherings and loved getting together with all
the Terris clan.
Later on in life, he felt blessed to have met Faye. The
girls were happy he had met someone who complimented him immensely. He
and Faye (nee Layton) were married September 2012 and had many great
times together traveling to Pennsylvania, Florida, British Columbia,
Barbados, Ireland and the Fryeburg Fair to mention a
few. They enjoyed being members of the New Brunswick Antique
Car Club for several years. Faye helped care for Brian as he aged and
became affected by Lewy Body Dementia. It gave the girls great comfort
knowing Faye was taking such good care of him. Despite many hard days,
he was still able to make his daily trips to Snider’s Garage
with the men to tell stories. More recently he and Faye became active
members of the Nursing Home without Walls program in Hillsborough. It
allowed them both to get out, keep active, laugh and joke with others.
He is now with his Lord and Savior and hearing «Well
done my good and
faithful servant»;. Being called
‘home’ while tinkering in the garage around his
old Ford cars was where he would have wanted to have been. He was a
wonderful husband and dad who has left a legacy of laughter and
love.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Faye
(Layton) Terris of Hillsborough; his treasured girls, Christy Hoyt
(Scott) of Sus Corner, Kelly Terris of Riverview and Shauna Terris
of Hillsborough; his precious granddaughters, Olivia and Bridgette;
step-daughter Cora Parker (Ian Curtis), his sisters, Sharon Steeves of
Hillsborough and Faye Crossman (Rod) of PEI and brother-in-law, Frank
Tower of Hillsborough. He will also be missed by
Hollie’s extended family, the Layton family; several nieces
and nephews and by his church family and friends and his grand-dog
Brody.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his
first wife Holliegene (Steeves); sisters Donna Tower, Beverly Land
(Mel), brother-in-law Gerald Steeves, niece Colleen Ermen, in laws
Hollis and Gerene Steeves and grand-dogs Scout and
Rudy.
He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral
Home with visitation on Saturday, September 28th , 2024, from 2-4 and
7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Surrey Valley Baptist
Church on Sunday, September 29th, 2024, at 2:30pm with Rev.
Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Fair Haven Memorial
Gardens, Moncton, NB.
Donations to the Surrey
Valley Baptist Church, Nursing Homes Without Walls c/o Forest Dale
Home Inc. or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the
family.
Arrangements are in the care of the Albert
County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H3K2,
