Obituary for
Brent Cooke
Brent Douglas Cooke, of Spencer Point, NS, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 57 years, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Born in Truro, on February 6, 1967, he was the son of Douglas and Shirley (Miller) Cooke.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Jessica (Lee) and Julie (Matt); son, Bradley (Autumn); grandchildren, Bria, Ava, Ella, Megan, Lucas, and Everleigh; mother, Shirley; brother, Kevin (Cheryl); sister, Pam, and mother-in-law, Iris, along with several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Brent was predeceased by his father, Douglas Cooke and father-in-law, Douglas Peppard.
Brent graduated in 1988 from the Maritime Forest Ranger School in New Brunswick. His passion for the outdoors led him to a lifelong career as a woodsman. He worked with the Department of Lands and Forests, Scott Paper Company, Laser Drainage Company, J.W. Tanner Logging Ltd. and Larry Bates Logging Ltd. Along with his love of the outdoors, Brent was a skilled trapper and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Throughout his life, Brent played hockey and baseball. As a dad, he spent endless hours coaching and shared his love of sports with his children. There are countless stories surrounding the glory, trials, errors, and antics, of every sports trip with family and friends.
Brent was a dedicated and caring father, which was evident in the way his children looked up to him with respect, love and admiration. His grandchildren held a cherished place in his heart, bringing immense joy to his life. He looked forward to time with them, and every visit would instantly put a smile on his face.
Following a stroke in 2013, Brent was admitted to Colchester East Hants Health Centre where he then resided for over a decade. During this time, Brent developed strong friendships with many nurses, respiratory therapists, and health care professionals who provided superior care during his time there. They became his extended family, and for them we are forever grateful.
Despite his situation, Brent was always spreading joy. His constant wit and sense of humour brightened everyone’s day. His easygoing personality and daily resilience were a true demonstration of Brent’s character. His strength was admired by all who knew him.
Shirley, Brent’s wife of thirty years, was the love of his life and they were truly soulmates. Their unwavering devotion and commitment to each other was a true testament of the love they shared. Shirley was a constant source of strength and comfort for him. Even while in the hospital, Brent prioritized his love for Shirley and her happiness. He went to great lengths to ensure no special occasion was missed, no matter how small. Their love was unbreakable.
Brent will be immensely missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Brent’s memory may be made to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
