Whynot – Brenda Elaine, age 78, of Milton, Queens
County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at
South Shore Regional Hospital with her loving family by her
side.
Born in Milton, NS, Brenda was the daughter of
the late Muriel (Minnick) and Wilson Whynot of Milton.
Over the years, Brenda worked various jobs but
the one she liked to remind people of was her job as a roller operator
when Highway 103 was extended through Queens County. Eventually she
began her career as a continuing care assistant for Queens County Home
Support where she worked over 20 years until she retired. Brenda was a
hard worker that challenged the boundaries when it came to providing
service to her clients. She was a natural and her clients loved her
spirit and no-nonsense approach to life.
Brenda enjoyed volunteering and helping to raise
funds for different community organizations. She was an active member
of the Nova Scotia Guides Association and spent many years as a
seasonal camper at Hibernia Campground where she made many lifelong
friends.
Brenda had a passion for bluegrass music that she
passed down to her children. Some of her favorite memories are from
attending festivals, playing and singing around a campfire surrounded
by her family and good friends. She enjoyed crafting, moose hunting
and going on the side by side with Barry. She loved her cat Pumpkin
and her children were her world.
Brenda is survived by her children, Rhonda Smith
(Ray) of Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co, NS, Treena Dexter (Robert) of LaBelle,
Queens Co, NS, and Andy Dexter (Angie) of Milton, Queens Co, NS;
grandchildren, Holly, Cole, Jack, Regan and Erin; great-grandaughter
Eva, and her siblings.
Besides her parents, Brenda was predeceased by
her first husband Wayne Dexter, her second husband Barry Whynot,
siblings June (in infancy), Irving, Joan, Wayne and great-grandaughter
Liberty.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of
the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, NS. A celebration of life
will be held at the Mersey Point Hall on November 19 from 1
– 3 pm. A private family burial will take place at a later
date at the Milton Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Colwell and the
nurses at SSRH for their kindness and compassion.
