Obituary for
Brenda Lee-Ann Hutchison (née Parker)
November 10, 1958 – February 8, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Brenda Lee-Ann Hutchison (née Parker) of Mayerthorpe, AB announces her passing. Brenda, a loving mother, wife, daughter and sister, passed away peacefully in her hometown at the age of 65. Years ago, a tea leaf reader predicted Brenda would live until 85 years of age, however, after a courageous battle with cancer, her time on earth ended sooner. A testament to Brenda’s vibrant personality, she was hopeful and believed the prediction until the very end.
Brenda was predeceased by her husband, Dave Hutchison; and father, Wayne Parker. She will be missed and fondly remembered by her son, Brendan; mother, Helen Parker; sisters, Debbie Duff, Ellie Jenner (Roger) and Laurie Ainley (Bart); and brother, Brian Parker. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Troy Jenner (Meagan), Kelsi Jenner, Shayla Daniel, Alexandra Guest (Ryan), Aaron Duff (Laura) and Brock Nickolson (Katie); and grandnieces and nephews, Violet Jenner, Phoenix and Lennox Daniel, and Barrett and Nolan Guest.
Born in Mayerthorpe, AB, Brenda lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed all that small town living had to offer. She was very active growing up. Her childhood was filled with hide and seek, kick the can, baseball, skating, and her mom’s exceptional cooking. After school, Brenda adored her mother’s homemade donuts, cookies, tarts, cream puffs, and other treats. One of Brenda’s favourite past times was visiting the Blue Room restaurant on Main Street for fries and gravy after swimming at the local pool.
After graduating high school, Brenda ventured to Edmonton and completed administrative assistant training, where she eventually started her career with Petro Canada. She enjoyed her life as a career woman and loved dressing the part, especially in high heels. Brenda had several careers in her lifetime as she transitioned from working at Petro Canada to Shoppers Drug Mart, being a nanny, and eventually returning to Mayerthorpe to work at the local Co-op where she would meet Dave, the love of her life.
Brenda and Dave fell quickly in love and were married on August 6th, 1994. Just over a year later, their son Brendan was born on September 3rd, 1995. Brenda’s life revolved around Brendan and Dave, and she adored being a wife and a mother. She was always proud of Brendan and Dave’s accomplishments. Brenda was everyone’s greatest cheerleader. When she wasn’t with her family, Brenda loved spending time with her friends at the Mayerthorpe pond. She always had an appreciation for the beauty of nature. Extremely loving and kind, everything in life had value to Brenda, big or small.
Brenda always had an exceptional memory. If there was ever a date or event we could not remember, we would always say “ask Brenda!” Not to mention, back in the eighties, Brenda regularly kicked everyone’s butt at Trivial Pursuit. She loved many aspects of life, but especially the holidays, Facebook, cats, Hallmark movies, hydrangeas, art, potato chips, Lindt chocolate, Orange Crush, and a good margarita. Although fond of Halloween, her favourite season was always Christmas, and she had a favourite Christmas sweater to prove it. Bright orange, fuchsia and lime green were her favourite colours, a testament to her colourful life.
Last fall we were fortunate to celebrate Brenda’s 65th birthday in September, a couple of months before her actual birthday. She let us know before her passing how special that day was to her. She shared the beautiful memories of her travels and holidays over the years. Puerto Vallarta, Hawaii, Nova Scotia and Canmore topped her list. She also had great memories of her time staying in the theme rooms at West Edmonton Mall with Dave and Brendan on a number of weekends. Her time at the mall was even more thrilling if there was a new Tom Cruise movie playing in the theatre.
Even on her hardest days, Brenda was full of light and love as she surrounded herself with the love of her family and friends, healing crystals, and a positive outlook.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the numerous doctors, nurses, and staff at the Misericordia Hospital who cared for Brenda. Further, a heartfelt thank you goes out to the all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Mayerthorpe Hospital who made her final days on earth more peaceful. We truly appreciate the love and support you gave Brenda and her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 5111 – 45 Avenue, Mayerthorpe. At the family’s request, to celebrate Brenda’s life, please wear your favourite Christmas sweater or bright colours.
Honouring Brenda, memorial donations may be made directly to the Mayerthorpe General Hospital Auxiliary Association, Box 582, Mayerthorpe, AB, T0E 1N0 or Mayerthorpe Fallen Four Memorial Society, Box 3700, Mayerthorpe, AB, T0E 1N0.
