The family of Bonnie MacPhee of Antigonish are saddened to
announce her passing on 29 May 2024 in the ICU unit of the Halifax
Infirmary at the age of 74, surrounded by her family, after a brief
but courageous battle with a rare blood disorder.
Bonnie was born in Inverness, the daughter of Alvin and Josie
Ingraham, and grew up in Margaree Centre where she attended High
School and made many lifelong friends. After moving to Halifax she
still spent time in Margaree where she met her future husband Stewart
at a dance in the south-west.
After marrying in 1972 they moved to Antigonish in 1974 where
she worked in banking for a time before working at Bloomfield as well
as the business office at St. F X where she made many lasting
friendships. After retirement she worked part time for Nova Lenses on
St. Andrews Street.
Bonnie was often seen helping at the hot lunch program and in
her earlier years she was very involved in the Kinette Service
Association.
Cape Breton remained an important part of Bonnie’s
life after moving to Antigonish with many family trips across the
causeway over the years.
Bonnie loved gardening and music. She received many
compliments for her exceptional culinary skills. She enjoyed hosting
dinner parties for family and friends, and an open-ended dinner
invitation was extended regularly to friends near and far. Bonnie had
an infectious joy that made everyone feel welcome at her home in
Antigonish.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years Stewart, sons
Stephen (Jennifer), Gavin (Trisha), both of Ontario, daughters Rachel,
New Brunswick and Janna, Alberta. ‘Nanny» will be
sorely missed by her grandchildren, Logan, Mckennah, Mytchel, Ella,
Kate, Hannah, Abbey and Beth. Brothers, Donald (Diane) and Fletcher
(Leah), as well as several nieces and nephews and many
in-laws.
Visitation will be in C L Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Stret, Antigonish on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be in St. James
United Church, on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00
pm.- with Reverend Peter Smith presiding.
The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care and
kindness that Bonnie received from the staff at St. Martha’s
hospital as well as the Q E 2 Health Centre.
