Peacefully, after a long and valiant struggle, on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of ninety. Daughter of the late Alice and the late Max Wexler. Beloved wife of the late Marvin Hyatt and Charles Akerman. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Shelley, Michael and Kirsten. Devoted Bubby of Ira and Mark. Cherished sister and sister-in-law of the late Edie and the late Jack Berbrier, and the late Murray Lipson; and sister-in-law of Brenda and the late Ruby Soobis, the late Murray Hyatt and the late David Hyatt. A special sister-in-law to Colette and Barry Brown. Birdie will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and by Charles’s family, Monty, Jason and Angelina, and their children, Emily and Ethan; Jonah, Erica, Evan, and Alissa. Birdie lived a busy and full life with kindness, respect, generosity, positivity, and a great sense of fun. Despite her many health challenges over the last several years, she never lost her sense of humour. She was a very talented artist whose works are probably hanging on the walls of everyone she knew. The family would like to thank the kind, compassionate and caring team at Maimonides Geriatric Centre. Special thanks to Birdie’s two amazing caregivers, Elizabete – in the first years, and Tracy, for this last year. Heartfelt gratitude to the family who stayed close throughout: Chavie, Mitch, Brenda, and to loyal friends, Molly, Gloria, and Barbara. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W. on Tuesday, March 12 at 12:00 noon. Burial at the B’nai Brith Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Shiva strictly private.
