William ‘Bill’ Winnett, B. Com., C.A.
1931-2024
Bill, beloved husband of Doreen, of 61 years, passed away June 18 at North Shore Hospice. Loving father of Allison (Tom), Andrea (John), Lesley (Winston). Grandfather to Justin, Jeffrey, Madison Stephanie, Nathan, Jordan, and Brother to Marla in Barrie, Ontario.
Bill was born in Toronto to Frederick and Margaret Winnett. He attended Whitney Public School, University of Toronto Boys College, B. Com. Carleton University, Ottawa, C.A. Price-Waterhouse. Bill worked at the Toronto Telegram before the family moved to Vancouver in 1971 when he joined the Canucks as Vice-President, Vancouver Sun, and then retiring from BC Hydro as treasurer in 1991. He then was on the board of the B.C. Treaty Commission for three years, also Capilano University, and the B.C. Lions. Bill was an avid sports fan and reader, always having a book in his back pocket. In 1992, he was awarded the Governor General of Canada Medal for his government & service work, and leadership in pioneering new business and sports opportunities for Canada.
Our many thanks to the medical staff at St. Paul’s Kidney Clinic, nurses and care aids at Creekstone Care Centre, palliative care at Lion’s Gate and North Shore Hospice where he was treated with care and dignity.
A Memorial Service will be held on June 29 at St. David’s United Church, West Vancouver at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s Kidney Clinic would be appreciated.
