King, William «Bill»:
Passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener at the age of 87.
From the time he was born, Bill has always been a family man. He loved deeply for those closest to him, which was first exemplified in his formative years while he would help raise and care for his younger siblings. He continued to be a pillar in the family into his early teenage years when he started working in order to help support them. These ambitions and values were carried forward when he started raising a family of his own.
There is no greater testament to the love Bill had to share than that with his «Maggie.» He fell in love with his soulmate, Margaret (nee Poore), and married her on September 14, 1957. Bill would proudly tell anyone who would listen «if I had to do my life over again, I wouldn’t change a thing because I want to be with my Maggie in every lifetime.» Bill and Maggie shared 67 beautiful years together setting the ultimate example that true love has no limits.
Bill earned a reputation as a problem solving, reliable and hardworking man during his time as a Millwright at Butler Metals. He developed a knack for hands on hobbies during his career which led him to joining the Senior’s Woodshop in his retirement. This hobby provided Bill with great joy, while providing his family with lasting treasures that we will continue to hold dear.
Bill believed in living life to the fullest through the simple pleasures that life has to offer; delivering the newspaper each morning to the tenants in the building, stopping to chat and share a story and a Werther candy with everyone that crossed his path, «snacking» was his full-time job while watching old movies, games shows and cartoons. His love for babies filled him with pure joy and always made him smile.
Bill was steadfast, generous, smart, and kind. He was what we always needed, full of smiles, laughter and quick witted with his favorite lines. There are no words to describe how profound this loss is to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
Loving father of Kim (Peter), Marion, Angie (Colin) and Nolan (Michelle).
Cherished grandfather of Mark, Darcy, Louie, Jeffrey, Jaymie, Brandon, David, Janna, Carly, Ryan and Emily and great grandfather of fifteen.
Dear brother of John (Betty), Elaine Keeping.
Dear brother-in-law of Betty St. Croix, Jackie Zinkhan (Don) and Larry Poore.
Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends and church family members.
Predeceased by parents, Eugene King and Anne Anderson (formerly King, nee Shortt) siblings Janice Kerr (Gary) and Donald King (Diane) and siblings-in-law, Don Poore (Donna), Isabelle Gambling (Jack), Ruth Main (John), George Poore (Dorothy), Shirley Main (Wilf), Phil Poore (Sandy).
Thank you kindly to the sixth floor nursing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for your unwavering compassion and care for our entire family.
Bill’s family has arranged a private funeral service entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation – Cancer Centre or King Street Baptist Church, Cambridge would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
