William Armstrong Hill, February 14, 1926 – January 7, 2023
We are very saddened to have dad pass, but also know that he is at peace. Dad was just shy of his 97th birthday, born to Mary (Armstrong) and Frank Hill. His passing is a loss of a strong link to the past with his wealth of knowledge. Dad is survived by his sister Evelyn Matthison, brother-in-law Ross Grant, son Stewart and his wife Kathy (Smith), Garry and his wife Karen (Lefrançois), his grand-children and his great grand-children and many relatives, near and far. Dad farmed for many years on the family farm in Downie Township, first with his mother and father, then many years with mom, June (Grant, 1925-2013), and finally helping his son Garry and Karen for many more years. Mom and dad enjoyed square dancing, their place in Florida, and many trips and cruises to several locations including Britain, Europe, Hawaii and across Canada and the United States. Dad had wanted to drive the Alaska Highway and he and mom finally managed to do that in their camper in 1990. Dad and mom spent their next years at Woodland Towers in Stratford, until mom passed away in 2013. Dad later moved to Spruce Lodge where he spent his final three years. He was very social and enjoyed visits with many other residents. He looked forward to seeing anyone, especially his family. The staff at both locations have been remarkable and helped both mom and dad go from this life to the next. We have always appreciated the care and respect they showed to dad. Dad was pre-deceased by his parents, son Glen (2006), grand-daughter Jennie (1982), grand-son Darren (2001), daughter-in-law Kim (Lambert, 1996), and many in-laws. We will miss you dad. You will always be in our hearts. Dad’s visitation will be on Thursday, January 12 from 1:00 to 3:00. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Avonbank Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Avonton Presbyterian Church, Avonbank Cemetery, or a charity of your choice through the W. G.
