It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that passing of William Norman Ernest, a much loved and cherished husband to Barb, proud father to Krista (Sandy) DiStasi, Justin (Jessica) and Brandon (Ashley Fairminer), beloved grandfather to Adelynn, Cora, Ryhan, Hayes, Weston, Leighton and Jace. He was a loving brother to Joan Leavoy and Blair (Kelly) and brother-in-law to Donna (Bill) Hopcraft and uncle to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends he made over the years.
Bill is predeceased by his parents Millard and Marjorie Ernest and great nephew Daylan Hopcraft and Theo Thomas.
Bill was born and raised in Walkerton and married the love of his life in September 1974. They taught their family the true meaning of love over their 48 years of marriage. Bill was a loyal and respected member of the Walkerton Agriculture Society for the past 35 years. He loved to engage in conversations and was the “social butterfly”. He was an avid sports fan, loved playing board games with his friends, family and especially his grandchildren who he adored.
Bill was a caring and dedicated paramedic for 38 years. He showed compassion and dignity with every patient he cared for. In 2008 he received the Governor General’s EMS Exemplary Service Medal for his courageous service. He was a mentor to many new paramedics and a valued member of the Walkerton EMS team. Bill loved his career and the valued friendships made and maintained well after his retirement.
Words cannot describe how much he will be missed by so many. Bill was a very gentle soul who is now a guardian angel to many. He will be remembered for this contagious smile, the twinkle in his eye, sense of humor, kind and gentle soul and his love for life and his family. In our hearts, he holds a place no one else will ever fill.
Friends and relatives are invited for visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2022, at Cameron’s in Walkerton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2022, at Sacred Heart Parish, Walkerton. Fr. Leszek Szczygiel officiating.
Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Walkerton.
