It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, William Gordon Atkins (Bill) on October 14, 2023.
Born & raised on beautiful Bell Island, Dad began his adult journey at the local mine. That beginning eventually led him to the Iron Ore Co. in Labrador City, NL, where he worked until he retired. There are many life stories from the in-between that just might just knock your socks off… Certified militiaman, to name one.
So many fond memories of our life… Dad wrestling with Labrador winters was a common one. Digging us out after a storm,
clearing the driveway… never a rogue clump of snow to be found. And so smart… There wasn’t anything Dad couldn’t do once he set his mind to it.
And, in the comforts of our childhood home, Dad could be found at the kitchen table, surrounded by friends, having a game of cards.
He could light up any room with his always funny, yet sometimes edgey, humor & infectious laugh.
Despite being deaf in one ear, Dad had a great passion for livening up a room with music. When he wielded his accordion, it was impossible not to dance or tap your foot along with him. His love for playing Newfie tunes didn’t stop there… He swayed & tapped as he belted out amazing music with his harmonica, too.
He was & always will be an incredible man. If you are one of the many who dearly love him, please grab the happy memories & keep our Dad alive in your heart.
Survived by sons James (Deanna), Terry (Connie), Tammy, Cynthia (Lloyd), sister (Daphne), Grandchildren: Bradley, Amanda, Meghan, Bryan, Christopher, Matthew, Kayla, Justin, Derrick, Kristen, 8 great Grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and eventually will rest in Labrador City.
