Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Beverley Van Delden on August 16th at 1:26 pm. She left peacefully surrounded by both of her beloved daughters, hand in hand.
Bev embodied kindness, generosity, humour, selflessness, and boundless generosity. Whenever we needed her the most, she’d drop everything and show up, fully present. Her daughters will always be forever grateful for how she devoted her life to them. The world has lost a radiant light, leaving a void in its wake.
After moving to the beautiful Sunshine Coast 18 years ago, she built a full life surrounded by friends and the community. She dedicated 17 years to BC Ferries, where she became a fixture known by locals and visitors for her iconic hat and upbeat nature.
Born and raised in East Vancouver, Bev was a spirited, quick-witted, and funny woman who effortlessly blended her Chinese heritage with her love for Canadian life. She was always a tireless worker, juggling multiple jobs, loved to travel but her most significant labour was her commitment to philanthropy and bettering the lives of others.
From supporting an orphanage in another country to assisting anyone in need, Bev’s heart was vast, and her impact immeasurable.
She showed her love, through cooking, acts of service and overall unwavering support when you needed it most.
Bev is preceded in death by her father, Paul Jang and “grandpup” Lucy. She leaves behind her mother, Mrs. Kim Jang (known affectionately as Miss Daisy), her cherished daughters Nikki and Ali, daughter in law Elizabeth, son in law Devin (Dvo), her sisters Laurie and Kelly brother in law Alvin and her adored nephews and niece: Owen, Mitchell, Kiera, and Noah. She also leaves behind a multitude of cousins, extended family members, Snuffaluffagus, and her «grandpups,» Drevfer and Morticia.
Nikki and Ali would like to thank the paramedics, Christy and Ben who stayed with her until friends and family could be there. As well as to Doctor Bryson of Sechelt Hospital, the dedicated nurses, and the outpouring of love and on-hands support from Bev’s friends during this difficult time.
To commemorate the multifaceted aspects of our mom’s life, we will host two separate celebrations of life:
September 18th at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club
1:00pm-6:00pm (in consideration of the Ferry worker shift schedules.)
September 21st at Forest Lawn Cemetery. (For immediate family)
3:00pm
For those unable to attend, we kindly ask that you raise a toast to our beloved mom in your own time.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to the BC Ferries’ Good & Welfare fund or to an orphanage of your choice.
Your support will honour Bev’s legacy of selflessness and compassion.
