Beverley O’Keefe (nee. Dixon)
1945-2024
Beverly O’Keefe (nee Dixon) of Charlottetown passed
peacefully into the arms of the angels on Friday, September 27, 2024,
surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was a
wonderful wife, always making Jack laugh, and an amazing, supportive
mother who put everyone’s needs ahead of her own.
She is fondly remembered as a dear sister-in-law; a funny and special
aunt; cousin; and a loyal friend.
Beverly was born to the late Howard and Rita (MacDonald)
Dixon on April 18, 1945. A little over three years ago, she
lost her beloved husband, Jack, who she always called
«Jackie». They met at Souris High School
when they were fifteen and were married for almost 53 years.
One never seemed to be without the other and it is a blessing to know
they are now together again.
Beverley is survived by their two children, Jacqueline
O’Keefe (René Wolfe) and Sean (Alaina)
O’Keefe. Her two grandchildren, Alexandra Wolfe
and Emerson O’Keefe loved and cherished their grandmother
who they called «Mom» and «Nannie». She
was very proud of all Alexandra and Emerson accomplished and loved to
go their basketball and hockey games.
Beverly is lovingly remembered by her sister, Pauline (George
Cantelo); brothers Alan (Joyce), Sefton (Sandra) and sister-in-law,
Joyce Dixon. She was predeceased by her brothers Claude and
Bernie and her sisters Doris, Gloria, Joan, and infant sister,
Lois.
Beverly is also remembered by Jack’s brothers and
sisters, Donnie (Carole), Peggy (Joey MacDonald), Allan (Marcella) and
Barbara (deceased). Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
all also have fond memories of Bev.
Beverly was born and began her schooling in Fortune,
PEI. She attended Souris Regional High School; and
then graduated from the PEI Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 as a
Registered Nurse. She worked in the Pediatric Unit at the
PEI Hospital and later moved with Jack to Halifax while he attended
Law School. She worked at the IWK in the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit and became involved in Public Health Nursing while in
Halifax with Jack.
Beverly and Jack returned to Charlottetown and she continued
her work as a public health nurse until the late 1970s, when she
became a full-time mom for which Sean and Jacqueline will be eternally
grateful.
Despite retiring from nursing, Beverly never stopped doing
for others. She volunteered at West Kent, Spring Park, Queen
Charlotte and Colonel Gray schools. She and Jack were always
the school chaperones that Jacqueline and Sean’s friends
wanted at school dances or on band trips. Beverly also
volunteered at the Confederation Centre and later with the Look Good
Feel Better program through the Cancer Treatment
Centre.
Jacqueline and Sean would like to thank Beverly’s
caregivers from Bayshore Home Health, whose extraordinary kindness and
care allowed her to remain in the home she loved. A special
thank you to Bev’s friend, Kathleen MacDonald, who provided
tremendous support to her. They would also like to thanks
the PEI Home Care Team, the PEI COACH Program and the PEI Palliative
Team for their wonderful care and compassion.
Resting at Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home,
with visitation on Wednesday October 2, 2024 from 4 -7 pm.
The service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday,
October 3, 2024 at 11:00 am and will be available for viewing via live
stream by visiting Beverly’s obituary at www.islandowned.ca
and clicking on the link provided. A private family
internment will follow the funeral.
If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the PEI
Provincial Palliative Care Centre.
