Beverley Fern Powers passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 86 in Hinton, Alberta.
She was born on December 10, 1937, in Weldon, Saskatchewan, her father was Alf Nilson.
The only child of a single dad, she was raised on a farm north of Weldon with her father’s family. Bestemor became her “Mom”, Bestefar was her best friend, Auntie Myrtle her “Big sister”. She was surrounded by a large and loving family.
She married Steve Dennis Powers on August 8, 1953.
Family: Deborah Anne (Dale) Perry 1954, Bonnie Lee ( James Frame) 1956, Shelley Mae (Dwayne) Benbow 1958, Patricia Lynn (Dennis) Bjarnson, 1960, Charlene Beverley Hopkins, 1963, Diana Gail (Richard) Roux 1966.
The family lived in Moose Range Saskatchewan, then moved to Weldon until 1969, when they moved to Hinton. Bev was Dietary Supervisory at the Hinton Hospital from 1974 until she retired in 1997 to become primary caregiver to Steve.
Bev was a member of The Order of Royal Purple Canada for many years. She served as President of the Order for many years, with Steve serving as president of the Elks. Bev was an active member of the CUPE Union and served as president for several years.
Beverley was known for her great sense of humor, her quick wit, and her card playing skills. She was a humble woman that was always kind and caring, she was in the kitchen creating chiffon cakes and the best pie crust.
The joy of her life was her family, starting with the love of her life, Steve. Her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter were the center of her world.
Bev was survived by: Her sister in law Judy (Barry) Powers-Gross, Queenie (Carl) Powers, her daughters: Deborah (Dale) Perry, Bonnie (James Frame) , Shelley (Dwayne) Benbow, Patricia (Dennis) Bjarnason, Charlene Hopkins and Diana (Rick) Roux, her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughter. Her special family Ken (Linda) Haverson and Myrna (Terry) Pederson, Don Thompson, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was predeceased by: Her husband Steve Powers, Grandparents: Bestefar Nilson, Bestemor Nilson, her father: Alf Nilson, aunt: Myrtle Haveron, uncle: Martin Havereon , brothers-in-law: Lawrence Powers, Carl Powers, George Seminuik, Fred Peterson, sisters-in-Law: Kirsten Powers, Kay (Powers) Peterson, cousins: Malcolm Haveron and Linda Brommeland, sons-in-law: Rocky Duckworth, Fred Bowen and Dwyane Benbow, nephew: Jack Powers and niece: Linda (Hope) Jensen.
Donations in leu of flowers may be offered in her memory to the Pine Valley Lodge, Evergreen Foundation.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 18, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Hinton Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Bulger officiating.
