Beverlee Barrie Obituary
At the age of 85, after a year’s long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, Bev Barrie, of Deep River passed peacefully at the Four Seasons Lodge in Deep River. Wife of Dave Barrie, sister to Barry Cole and his wife Myra, mother of Tony, James and Jeff, and step mom to Shelley and Karen. Bev leaves behind nine grandchildren, Julian and Cole Becker, Olivia and Ridley Filippetti, Ryan Prefontaine, Adam Barrie, Jayden Barrie, Dylan Raaymaker, Aloria Raaymaker. And two great grandchildren Bowen and Cleo Barrie.
Bev was born to Mary Theresa and Robert Cockburn Kemp, becoming the younger sister by two years to her brother Barry. She grew up in Winnipeg, where her interests were in sewing and figure skating. Several years after her parents divorced when she was 7, her mom met married Ernest Julian Cole. The new family began a journey to Ottawa where she attended Fisher Park High School. When Ernie was transferred to Montreal, Bev stayed in Ottawa so she could finish her school there. As a young woman in her twenties, Bev moved back to Saskatoon and joined the WRENs where she was sent for such tasks as collecting prop wash and sky hooks. She met and married Wayne Becker, also in the Air Force, in 1960. She is mother to Anthony Earnest Becker (1962-2022 Paxton Illinois), William James Becker (1964 St Agathe, Quebec,) (Nathalie Filippetti) and Jeffery Scott Becker (1968 Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) (Cherie Micallef). The family moved to Deep River in 1972. Bev and Wayne divorced in 1975.
Her life in a small town with three boys was busy as a single mom, with full time work at the Bank of Montreal, and hobbies of bowling and bridge. It became complete when she met David Barrie and Dave’s two daughters, Shelly Barrie (Will Stone) and Karen Raaymaker, (Mike Raymaaker). Bev and Dave married in 1979 and started a love together that will rarely be matched. They have been married for 45 years, a marriage that started with a honeymoon in Jamaica and grew to include travel to classic destinations around the world, cruises and many gatherings of friends and family. Bev has always been a very social person who made friends easily, and never turned down an opportunity to host friends and enjoy in other’s company. When Bev retired from AECL in 2000, she turned her love of golf into a passion, and golfed almost every day until Parkinson’s robbed her of her ability.
There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Deep River on Saturday, August 10 at 11:00 am. In memory of Bev, donations to the Four Seasons Lodge would be greatly appreciated.
Our heartfelt thanks to the team at the Four Seasons Lodge for providing exceptional care for her time there. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Four Seasons Lodge would be appreciated.
