Betty Warrilow Obituary
We commemorate the life of Betty, who passed away peacefully at Brightshores Health System on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Born on Sunday, November 3, 1929, Mary Elizabeth Warrilow (nee Foster) of Owen Sound was in her 95th year.
Beloved wife since 1955 of the late Percy Warrilow. Loving mother of Robert Warrilow of Owen Sound, David Warrilow of Owen Sound and the late Nancy Warrilow. Cherished grandma of Rowen (Toby), Rebecca, Riel (Mitch), Edward (Caitlyn) and Alexis, and great grandma of Angus and Alice. Dear sister of Lloyd Foster and foster sister of Frank Tebbutt. Betty will be missed by her extended family and friends, especially Lynn Lambert Litt, Mary Gordon Smith, George Gordon, Ruth Perkins Herr, Betty Perkins MacGregor, David Wilson, Barb Hanley and Ted Potter.
Predeceased by her parents Charles and Ellen Foster.
She was a timeless friend to her college roommates, high school friends, extended family and cousins. Betty was proud of her accomplishments. A graduate of the University of Toronto, she established the Home Economics department in Hanover High School in the 1950s. She was a teacher, a genealogist, a published author, an editor, a publisher of several newsletters, and a Chief Returning Officer.
In her early life, she was a member of Canadian Girls in Training, and the Women’s Institute. She enjoyed the inspiration and companionship of attending church throughout her life but for the last few years, she attended St. Georges Anglican Church via YouTube. She was active in local history, genealogical research, and playing bridge. One memory stands out. After a night of duplicate bridge, people stood around watching as Mother and Father went on ahead, walking hand in hand.

A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 11 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed and a recorded version will be posted online. Interment will take place in Boyd Cemetery.
