Betty Gaiters, at the age of 85, of Elora, passed away on Friday, September 13th, at Caressant Care in Fergus.
Betty is survived by her sister Margaret Hardie, son’s James and Grant Dix, daughter Sharon Didio, grandchildren Erika Jetha, Jessica Daniel, Sara Dix, Rebecca Didio, Joseph Didio, great-grandchild, Oliver Jetha, nieces Sheila Angus, Carole Skinner and nephews Ian Hardie, David Cruikshank. She is preceded in death by her parents Annie and James Gaiters, and sister Evelyn Cruikshank.
Betty was born in Aberdeen, Scotland to Annie and James Gaiters on December 17th, 1938. She immigrated to Canada in 1958 and married Kenneth Dix in 1962. Together they raised 3 children, enjoying many years doing so. Betty had a career working in the field of bookkeeping and accounting. She was an avid 5-pin bowler and a talented knitter. Later, after retirement, Betty enjoyed many competitive years of lawn bowling in the peaceful community of Elora. She volunteered at Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus for several years.
In keeping with her wishes, future plans will be made to spread her ashes near her family dwelling in Banchory, Scotland by the immediate family. Banchory was the family home town outside of Aberdeen where Betty’s family was able to stay safe during WWII.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Caressant Care facility in Fergus for their kindness and excellent care offered to Betty throughout the past 2 years as she suffered with dementia.
Memorial donations may be made to the Groves Memorial Community Hospital, 131 Frederick Campbell Street, Fergus, Ontario N1M 0H3.
