BESSIE IRENE NOSEWORTHY (NEE TILLER) – JULY 30, 1931 -JANUARY 6, 2023
It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful, precious Mom on Friday, January 6th, 2023.
Bessie Irene Noseworthy (née Tiller) was born in Wesleyville, Bonavista Bay North, on July 30th, 1931, and moved to St. John’s in 1950 with her husband-to-be, our Dad, Bert.
Mom and Dad were married on June 27th, 1955 and were together for 77 incredible years. They have two daughters – Bonnie (Charlie) Morgan of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s and Barbi (Blair) King of St. John’s.
After spending 2 years as Assistant Manager of the Fisheries Union Trading Company in Wesleyville, she resigned to take a new position as Manager of a retail store in St. John’s. Mom devoted her entire life to both of us and our Dad. This was her biggest accomplishment, being the wonderful mother that she was and providing the most loving and comfortable home for our family. We know how much you loved us Mom, and we loved you so very much too. No matter where we were, not a single day went by that we didn’t speak with her.
Our quiet and gentle, yet strong but reserved Mom was a beautiful lady who never wanted to be the centre of attention, but could fill up a room with her smile. She was loved by all who knew her.
In addition to us, Mom leaves to mourn her devoted husband, Bert, her only sister, Loretta (John) Coish, Sister-in-Law, Dorothy (Robert) Way, many nieces, nephews, cousins and special neighbours and friends.
Mom was predeceased by her mother and father, Sarah and Fred Tiller of Wesleyville, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Louise and Percy Noseworthy, also of Wesleyville.
On behalf of our family, we want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Roger Butler for being there when we needed him the most. Also, to Mom’s and Dad’s special neighbours of 35 years, thank you Cheryl and Bob Pike and family. You have always gone above and beyond. Thank you also to the Staff of the Palliative Care unit at the Miller Centre for your kindness during such a difficult time.
Mom…We will miss you dearly, but will hold our wonderful memories close and will cherish them for the rest of our lives!
The wake will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11th, 2023.
A Funeral Service by Reverend Bill Mercer will take place on Thursday, January 12th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Barrett’s. Due to a member of the family being immune compromised, masks are required to attend the visitation and funeral service. Internment will be carried out at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to Belles with Balls NL, an organization near and dear to our hearts which raises monies for Ovarian Cancer Research and Education in Newfoundland and Labrador.
